    Does Inductor Lead Or Lag

    The phase relationship of inductance components in AC circuits is as follows: When current flows through an inductance component, the inductance generates a back electromotive force (EMF) that attempts to oppose the change in current. Therefore, the voltage across the inductance component leads the current, rather than lags behind it.

    Specifically, in a pure inductance circuit, if the current varies in a sinusoidal waveform, the voltage across the inductance will lead the current by 90 degrees (or π/2 radians). This means that, if you observe the current and voltage waveforms, the voltage waveform will reach its peak before the current waveform.

    This phase relationship can be represented using a phasor diagram, where the voltage phasor on the inductance points 90 degrees ahead of the current phasor. This characteristic makes inductance components crucial in circuit analysis, especially when discussing concepts such as impedance and phase angle.
